     Wi-Fi® Certification and Trademarks

Several Wi-Fi-related terms are commonly used in the computing industry as if they are the names of Wi-Fi protocols, when in fact, they are trademarks of the Wi-Fi Alliance that indicate a device has successfully passed certification for the respective protocols. The purpose of this page is to clarify this for the protocols supported by Micro Digital software and to provide helpful links to more information on the programs of Wi-Fi Alliance and Micro Digital products.

Note that only hardware devices can be certified by Wi-Fi Alliance, not software. Therefore, it is not possible for Micro Digital to certify smxWiFi™. Instead, our OEM customers who add Wi-Fi to their products must pass the certification required by the Wi-Fi Alliance in order to use the following marks in the packaging and marketing materials of their end products.

Wi-Fi Direct™:  The Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Specification is the basis for Wi-Fi Alliance's Wi-Fi Direct™ certification program.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™:  The Wi-Fi Simple Configuration Specification is the basis for Wi-Fi Alliance's Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ certification program.

Wi-Fi Protected Access® (WPA™, WPA2™):  The 802.11i standard is the basis for Wi-Fi Alliance's Wi-Fi Protected Access™ certification program.

Wi-Fi Direct™, Wi-Fi Protected Setup™, Wi-Fi Protected Access®, WPA™, and WPA2™ are certification trademarks of Wi-Fi Alliance and may be used only in connection with products certified by Wi-Fi Alliance, subject to any and all terms and conditions established by Wi-Fi Alliance.  Micro Digital is not affiliated with Wi-Fi Alliance.
