Chipwrights and Micro Digital Announce smx USB 2.0 Stack for CW5631 Processor
January 28, 2009, Bedford, MA based ChipWrights Inc - part of AD group - and Costa Mesa, CA based Micro Digital announce the port of the smx USB 2.0 stack, from Micro Digital, to the powerful CW5631 Visual Signal Processor (ViSP) embedded System-on-Chip (SoC) development platform. ChipWrights worked closely with the Micro Digital development team to implement both the host stack (smxUSBH) and the device stack (smxUSBD) on the CW5631. Unlocking this new capability will enable ChipWrights to provide cost effective support for a USB host and device on the CW5631 which, crucially, will be portable to many target operating systems.
The MCF52259 is aimed at low- to mid-size systems. In addition to on-chip 64KB SRAM and 512KB flash, it has an external memory interface (Mini-FlexBus), which allows connecting to two external memories such as SRAM and flash. The Freescale M52259EVB evaluation board is the first to feature the new Freescale MRAM technology.
Commented Cary Robins, President of ChipWrights: "We are delighted with the work and support of Micro Digital to realise this portable USB stack which they have delivered to us on the eCos operating system. The host stack element provides us with an expandable, hot-swap, plug-and-play USB interface for the CW5631, while the device stack ensures that we can rapidly add USB device capabilities for specific projects."
Said Ralph Moore, President of Micro Digital: "From our perspective being able to deploy smxUSB, which is designed specifically for embedded systems, on the CW5631 offers the perfect platform to demonstrate the potential of this capability when implemented on the latest generation System-on-Chip (SoC)
processors - particularly those designed for portable or embedded digital media products."
